Protect Yourself From Deed Theft

Did you know that you can lose your house through illegal transfer of its title, without realizing it? Deed theft, and other real estate crimes, have been growing tremendously. In the past 10 years, 3,500 deed theft complaints have been filed in New York City, and the rate is rising. Online and other methods contribute to these crimes.

Assistant Attorney General, Nazy Modiri and Special Assistant for Housing & Community Development, Kerri White, both from the New York State Office of the Attorney General, will speak about deed theft. They will explain what deed theft is, some of the typical ways that it is done, and who might be vulnerable to this crime.

They will also identify ways homeowners can protect themselves and their homes from being targets of deed theft.
